We don’t have pictured from the 3rd annual Buckeye Stars Basketball Camp, but here are a few from last year’s fun. The camp took place just two weeks ago from July 28-30 at the Worthington Kilbourne High School in Columbus, Ohio. Kids enjoyed three days of team building and basketball workshops with Greg Oden, Mike Conley and Daequan Cook, former Ohio State Buckeye Stars. Enjoy the glimpse into the camp – we’re hoping to have pictures from this year’s amazing experience soon.

This summer, kids in Ohio got to experience a fantastic camping experience. From July 28-30 at the Worthington Kilbourne High School in Worthington, Ohio, kids were invited to join the Buckeye Star Basketball Camp with former Ohio State Buckeye Stars Greg Oden, Mike Conley and Daequan Cook.

The camp was made possible with the help of the event management company, ProCamps Worldwide. They assist professional athletes like Greg Oden to develop their personal sports camps. Since 1998, more than 40 of the most well known athletes have used their services to operate their camps. Their clients include NBA All Stars like Greg Oden, Team USA Basketball members, NBA World Champions, NFL Pro Bowlers and many others.

These camps touch the lives of many children, helping them to learn sports skills while building their confidence and teaching them about teamwork.

A recent article written in The Boston Herald has claimed the Celtics are currently investigating various trades including Portland Trail Blazers Rudy Fernandez. Fernandez has done well for the Trail Blazers, averaging 8.1 minutes and 1.0 assists in 23.2 minutes for the team over the last year. He is a 6”6 shooter and estimates have him making $1,246,680 next season, with a team option of $2,180,443 for 2011-12.

Like Greg Oden, Fernandez was selected on June 28, 2007 but this was by the Phoenix Suns. Sometime thereafter that team traded Fernandez’s draft rights to the Portland Trail Blazers for cash. At the same time, Oden was selected as the no. 1 overall pick, whereas Fernandez was 24th overall in the NBA Draft.

The Blazers began the season as the second-youngest team in the NBA. Certainly, all players, including Greg Oden, Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge and more, are looking forward to shining in the upcoming year.

Looks at a former coach from the Portland Trail Blazers.

Dr. Jack Ramsay (a.k.a. “Dr. Jack”), has, to date, enjoyed a long and esteemed professional basketball career. Throughout this however, the work he has been best known for, was when he coached the Portland Trail Blazers to the 1976-77 NBA Championship. This is the team in which Greg Oden was selected first overall in the 2007 NBA Draft. This shouldn’t have been too surprising, since Oden was named the 2006 Indiana Mr. Basketball.
Ramsay was no longer coaching the team when Greg Oden was selected. But he himself has a pretty impressive basketball history, being the seventh highest-winning coach in NBA’s history, as well as a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Prior to that he was head coach of the Sixers, successfully leading the team to three playoff appearances throughout four seasons. Unfortunately for him though, he made some pretty poor decisions when he traded away top quality players like Wilt Chamberlain and Chet Walker. The team suffered severely as a result. Before joining the Trail Blazers, he was coach for the Buffalo Braves but didn’t do them all that many favors either.

With the Trail Blazers however, he started earning back his high-class basketball coach reputation. The timing couldn’t have been better for him. The team hadn’t done well in the six years since its inception but just when Ramsay arrived, Maurice Lucas joined and the team was starting to really come together until Bill Walton. It was under Ramsay’s tutelage that the Trail Blazers earned their only NBA title to date. Now that’s something to be proud of.

Jack McCloskey, second coach for the Portland Trail Blazers.

The second coach the Portland Trail Blazers had was Jack McCloskey. He served the team between 1972-1974. As well as being a coach, he was also a player for the NBA and an executive. During his time there, the team’s win-loss record was not something to be so proud of, at 48-116. Perhaps if it would have had Greg Oden playing (who only joined the Trail Blazers in 2007), things would have looked somewhat different. But as it was, McCloskey thus left in 1974.
When he did leave the Trail Blazers, McCloskey joined the Los Angeles Lakers, under Jerry West, as assistant coach. He hoped to have been promoted to head coach when West left but Paul Westhead was hired over him. In 1979, he became the general manager for the Detroit Pistons. This was probably where he was most well known since just two years ago, his name was honored in Detroit with a banner raised at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Nate McMillan, the coach of the Portland Trail Blazers where Greg Oden plays Center, recently sat down with Benson Taylor of Sporting News. Coach McMillan explained that they’ve had a successful season, partly as a result of the excellent coaching staff. As he said, “We’ve got to be the hardest-working team out on the court. And our guys have responded to that.”

He plans to make a number of decisions in the offseason to help to rebuild the team so that it will be strong enough to compete in the Western Conference and possibly for a championship.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Greg Oden tied a career high with 24 points and LaMarcus Aldridge also had 24 to help the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Chicago Bulls 122-98 onMonday night.

Oden, the first pick of the 2007 NBA draft, missed one of his eight shots from the field and added 12 rebounds. Aldridge pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Blazers had five players score in double figures. Brandon Roy had 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, while Andre Miller scored 16 and Rudy Fernandez 13.

Luol Deng scored 25 points and John Salmons added 22 for the Bulls.

Portland’s 122 points was a season high and the Trail Blazers outrebounded the Bulls 47-27.

Portland scored a season-high 66 points during the first half by dominating inside and getting to the free throw line. Four Blazers scored in double figures during the opening half, led by Aldridge’s 17 points.

Chicago made its first nine shots in the third quarter and cut its deficit to 80-75. But the Blazers closed the period on a 10-5 spurt to take a 10-point lead heading into the fourth before blowing the game open.

Notes: Chicago plays six consecutive road games during a 14-day span. Monday’s game was the fourth. Portland beat Chicago for the fifth consecutive time in the Rose Garden. … The Blazers have also won five straight over the Bulls, after sweeping the season series in 2007-08 and 2009-09.
