Enjoy a beautiful day on the water at the Waterfront Park. This park includes a boat dock, a fountain, historic sites, many walking and biking paths and other visitor attractions. The Battleship Oregon Memorial was built in 1956 to honor a ship from 1893. A time capsule was actually sealed in the base of the memorial on July 4, 1976 that is supposed to be opened on July 5, 2076. The Founders Stone honors the founders of Portland, William Pettygrove and Asa Lovejoy. Legend has it that they actually tossed a coin to decide whether to name the town Boston or Portland!
Make sure to enjoy the Salmon Street Springs while you’re at the park. The 185 water jets are part of an underground computer that changes their movements. At full capacity, the fountain recycles 4,924 gallons of water per minute through 137 jets at one time!
