Perhaps it is because Portlanders love Mexicans, or maybe it is that the Mexicans love Portland life. Whatever the reason, the Cinco de Mayo – the Mexican’s independence of celebration – has become an extremely popular May event. Entertainment and fun at Portland’s Waterfront Park make this annual event at least a must-drop by, or plan to spend the day and really get a feel for how Mexicans celebrate in style. This event has now been taking place for a quarter of a century and its popularity hasn’t waned a bit. It is organized by the non-profit organization, Portland Guadalajara Sister City Association which is: “dedicated to promoting Latino culture, arts, education, economic and intercultural partnerships, and goodwill between the cities of Portland and Guadalajara.”
