Greg Oden was named Big Ten player of the week twice in one season, in year 2006, while a freshman at Ohio State. Jared Sullinger, the current Buckeyes center, has followed in his footsteps; he recently scored 40 points in a game against IUPUI, and was named Big Ten player of the week for the second time this season.
When asked if the two players are similar, Ohio State coach Thad Matta explained that they are completely different players. “Jared has two hands, which is important. He’s a little more polished around the basket. Greg was so dominant defensively and around the basket. Both of them are winners and both of them love to compete,” he said.
